Understanding Your Value     by Joel Osteen

People may leave out and overlook you...but always remember the one who matters most chose you.

Growing up, I played baseball all through little league and junior high. I always made the All-Star Team. Like any little league player, I dreamed of playing second base in the big leagues. But when I got to high school, it was a whole new level of talent. I came from a very large high school. There were 800 people in my graduating class. When I tried out for the baseball team, there were 150 other young men trying out for 20 positions on the team.

I’ll never forget the day the coach called us into the gym to tell us who made the team. He began to call out the names one by one. I didn’t hear my name, but I was sure I was going to be next, or next, or next... The more names he called out, the lower I sank. He finally said, “Alright, here’s the last name.” He called it out, and it wasn’t my name. I was so disappointed. He told me later, “Joel, I’d love to have you on the team. You’re just too small. You’re not big enough.” Back then I was very small. I grew six inches after high school.
Over the next few weeks and months, those words rang out in my mind again and again. “You heard what the coach said. You’re too small. There’s something wrong with you. You’re not good enough.” Have you noticed how the negative voices will always play the loudest? If you don’t take control of your thought life, then every hurt, every criticism, every derogatory comment will play again and again. I was tempted to be insecure, to feel inferior, and lose my confidence. But I had to keep reminding myself, “He may have said I’m too small, but I know God made me like I am on purpose. He may have said I’m not good enough, but God says I’m a masterpiece. They may have rejected me, but God says He accepts me.”
It says in 1 Peter 2:9, “You have been chosen by God Himself.” People may leave you out. People may overlook you. But always remember, the One who matters most chooses you. That means you weren’t randomly chosen. God, on purpose, looked at you and said, “I choose him. I choose her. They’re My son. They’re My daughter. That’s who I want on My team.”
People may tell you, “You’re just too small.” But God says, “You’re just the right size for Me.” People may say, “You’re not talented. We don’t need you. You don’t have anything to offer.” But God says, “You are fearfully and wonderfully made. You are talented. You are creative. You are anointed. You are smart. You are intelligent. You are amazing.”
Whenever we feel that sting of rejection, instead of getting down on ourselves and losing our sense of value, our attitude should be, “I may be disappointed. This may hurt. But I’m not going to sink down into self-pity and start thinking that there is something wrong with me. I know the One who matters most, the One who controls the universe, handpicked me. I may not have been chosen by the coach, the boss, or a friend, but I was chosen by the Most High God; and He says that His plans for me are for good and not evil, to give me a future and a hope.”
I know some of you have gone through more than your share of unfair situations. But here’s what I’ve learned. Even though life is not fair, God is fair. If you will not go around thinking there is something wrong with you, but instead start seeing yourself as handpicked by God — valuable, lovable, with something great to offer — then God said He will pay you back double for your former shame. That means He’ll make the rest of your life twice as good as it would have been if that had never even happened to you.
But you’ve got to dig your heels in. Don’t allow what somebody did or didn’t do steal your destiny and cause you to go through life feeling not good enough, not talented, not attractive. No, realize that you’re a child of the Most High God. Your value doesn’t come from people or accomplishments; it comes from your Creator. Put your shoulders back. Hold your head up high. Live with confidence. God said He will take what was meant for your harm and use it for your advantage.

If you will keep this attitude of faith, God will always give you the last laugh. He’ll get you where you’re supposed to be. No, I didn’t get chosen for the baseball team that year. My dreams of playing second base didn’t work out. But do you know 30 years later, I did stand at second base at Yankee Stadium? I wasn’t playing baseball. God had something else for me to do. God opened the door for our ministry to conduct a Night of Hope event, and I was able to stand boldly on second base and tell thousands of people about God’s goodness and His good plan for their lives. It was a time I will never forget and was one of the greatest moments of my life.
Friends, people may reject you, but God accepts you. He’s already chosen you, and He’s the One that matters most. He has a way of working everything out for our good! And it’s always better than we could have ever imagined!

Dryer Sheets, so many uses!

I've always saved dryer sheets for dusting.  I keep a basket in my laundry room and as I take clothes out of the dryer, I deposit the used dryer sheet into the basket.  Every now and then I will use it to wipe down the lint and dust of the washer and dryer.  When I dry dust furniture around the house, I use a dryer sheet.  They pick up dust and it sticks to the sheet.

Real Simple is one of my favorite magazines, but I stopped buying it so often when their website took off. (It's a pricey mag). They always have a section called "New Uses for Old Things" that I believe may have sent me in the dryer sheets as dusting agents direction. I honestly can't remember why I started doing it, I've been doing it too long to remember!

I've seen some Pinterest pins floating around about using dryer sheets to clean in other areas.  I've tries two and wanted to see what you may use dryer sheets for....

Dryer sheets really do get soap scum off shower doors!!
If you have a favorite shower cleaner, use it with your used dryer sheets.
Pinned Image
source: Real Simple

I myself have tried many bathroom cleaners, and never really had a favorite.  I'm a fan of Vinegar.  And when I saw this pin about vinegar, dish soap, and cornstarch being a scum remover, I went at my shower!  I added dryer sheets as my scrubbing agent and skipped the cornstarch.  Here's my recipe:

Soap Scum Remover

2 cups white vinegar
2 tbsp dish soap
used dryer sheets

In clean spray bottle, mix vinegar and dish soap together.  (Shake well)
Spray shower walls and doors with mixture.  Wait. (I wash my hair, shave my legs, whatever needs done while I wait)
Use dryer sheets to scrub walls and doors.  Rinse.

Dryer sheets are great for washing the car!

So, the other day the little one and I were washing the car.  It's love bug season and they were not coming off!  I needed some scrubbing power but couldn't find anything that would scratch the paint.  After a quick look through pinterest I saw a recommendation for using dryer sheets to wash the car.  Thank goodness I keep them!  I grabbed a handful and took to the bug scrubbing!

IT WORKED GREAT!!!  Most of the stuck on bugs just wiped right off and the rest just required a little oopmh behind the dryer sheet (meaning I had to scrub hard).  I used plain ol' dish soap and dryer sheets and cleaned my entire car.

I'll never use a rag again for the car!  I love that I can reuse dryer sheets and I can throw them away after they do their bug duty!

Tell me, do you reuse dryer sheets?

Power Thoughts {WEEK 7}

READ:
Read pages 96-101 of Power Thoughts by Joyce Meyer .

As you read, Highlight the passages that jump out to you, the ones that grab your attention or tug on your heart strings. What is God revealing to you through these pages? Write down your thoughts in your book or journal.

God Loves You Unconditionally!

Do you believe this or do you spend countless hours “working” at being accepted?  Do you say “yes, God Loves me but….”  Maybe your  “but” is what you don’t like about yourself, your sin, your past.  God doesn’t consider any “buts” when you says He loves you.
Do you receive God’s grace and give it to others?

DEFINE:
unconditional
not limited by conditions; without condition, absolute:

unconditional love
affection with no limits or conditions; complete love

ACTION:

Write down Ephesians 1:4.  Rewrite the words in this verse that define who you are.  Write down your own definition of who you are.  Look for more Scripture that defines who you are in God's eyes.  (Romans 5:9, 1 Peter 1:19, Romans 4:25, 1 Peter 2:9, Colossians 1:1....)

PRAY: Dear Lord, Thank you for sending your Son to pay the price for my sins, that I may stand holy and blameless before you.  Thank you for your Grace.  I ask that you show me daily how I might extend your Grace to others.  AMEN

We've given many a "pinned" recipe a try in our kitchens...some with rave reviews, some forever deleted from our food boards.  Now, we share our thoughts with you, letting you decide, to pin or not to pin.

The Pin(s):
Smashed Potatoes AKA Crash Hot Potatoes
Man Pleasing Chicken

Find Recipe here:

Corey's Review:
Taste: Yum! Two Thumbs up!

Prep:

 Chicken is EASY
I used leg quarters instead of just the thighs, and added green onions just because we like green onions...and I have them growing on the counter.

Potatoes require a lil bit o work, but easy work.
I recommend using smaller red potatoes that I used.  The smashing wasn't as pretty with my large taters. But they were oh so yum.

Happy Pinning!

Countdown to Easter Celebration - Final Days

It's Good Friday.  A day of sorrow, mingled with joy.  For those who know how the story ends, we shed tears for the sins of man, yet rejoice for what is yet to come.  Celebrate what Christ did for you this weekend.  Share His love with someone who needs Him.  Below are three videos, one is a great explanation of the events that took place.  The other two, are songs put to clips from The Passion of the Christ, two songs that move me... a movie that I still can't bring myself to watch.  Happy Easter everyone!

From the Last Supper, to the Garden, to the Cross...this video is a dramatic retelling of the events.

Countdown to Easter Celebration - Day 6

Countdown to Easter Celebration - Day 7

Matthew 21:12-17, Mark, 11:15-19, Luke 19:45-48
After Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem via donkey,  Jesus enters into the temple, where people were gathering for Passover.  It was custom to purchase an animal to sacrifice.  In order to purchase these animals, anyone not "local" would need to exchange their currencies for the local currency.  It was not out of the ordinary to see moneychangers and those selling animals in the outer courts of the temple.  When Jesus becomes angry and begins to toss tables and chairs, He claims "it is written, My house shall be called a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves!"

Thieves rob people.  Were the moneychangers and animal sellers robbing people?  Maybe they were charging outrageous rates because they could, because they knew people would need to purchase their sacrifice.  In the name of religion, they may have been robbing people. We do know that the profits made in the temple were governed by the Sadducee.... and we recognize the Sadducee as wealthy thieves.

Does this have to do with the fig tree that Jesus cursed around the same time He cleansed the temple?  The fig tree looked innocent enough, but when Jesus wanted to eat of its fruit, He saw it had none.  It only had leaves.  The Amplified bible tells us that Fig trees bear fruit and leaves at the same time.  Most other fruit bearing trees bear leaves then fruit.  So we know this fig tree should have fruit since it had leaves.  Because it bears no fruit, but looks like it should, was it a fake?

We see people who fake Christianity all the time.  They talk the talk, but don't walk the walk.  They sit in church on Sundays, make statements about how faithful they are, how blessed they are....but we know the decisions they make outside of the church walls.  We know we cannot call on them to help in times of need.  We avoid them because they are hard to get along with or maybe their constant negativity drains us.

If we have leaves, we must bear fruit.  If we pray for blessings, we must be God's arms blessing others.  If we pray for healing, we must be the feet visiting the sick.  If we pray for forgiveness, we must be willing to forgive.  If you pray in Jesus name, does your conduct match that name?

Jesus wasn't angry in the temple, He was passionate.  He was passionate about His Father's house.  Today, the Father's house is inside you.  Are you as passionate about that house as Jesus was?

Countdown to Easter Celebration - Day 9 & 10

Mary, Martha, and Lazarus lived in Bethany, a town just miles outside of Jerusalem. Bethany was a town about to see the wondrous Glory of God at work in a man named Lazarus.

Mary and Martha cared for their brother Lazarus greatly, and when he became ill they sent for the One they knew could help him, Jesus.  Their message was simple:  "Lord, behold, he who You love is sick"  They didn't beg and plead, they didn't go into detail about symptoms, they simply stated the one fact, they simply stated a need...and believed God to meet that need His way.  They didn't tell Jesus how much Lazarus had loved Him or done for Him, they knew Jesus loved Lazarus, unconditionally.
Two days after hearing the news, Jesus tells the disciples they will make their way to Lazarus, passing through places that desired to stone Jesus.  What did Jesus know about the two days He waited?  Did He wait so that He could perform a greater miracle than the healing everyone had already seen? Do we base God's love on the time it takes for Him to "pull through for us" ....

Martha, runs to meet Jesus as soon as she hears He is coming.  Lazarus had died 4 days ago. Martha says to Jesus " Lord if You had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You."  Jesus responds to Martha by telling her that her brother will rise again.  Martha knows understands the last day prophecies, she knows Lazarus will rise again in the resurrection of the last day.  Martha seems conflicted with doubt and belief.  She believes Jesus has the ear of God, but doesn't believe that her brother can be alive again until the last day.

Jesus responds with His famous words " I am the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in Me though he may die, he shall live.  And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die..."  Time is not an issue for Jesus. He was life, standing there in front of Martha. Even as this life on earth may pass, Christ offers eternal life.

Martha secretly tells her sister, Mary, that Jesus has arrived.  Jews had come to mourn the death of Lazarus, the same Jews that wished to stone Jesus.  When Mary finds Jesus, she too makes the same claim as Mary, and falls to His feet.  Those that followed Mary were weeping too.  Jesus was troubled.  Jesus wept.  Jesus felt what we feel...he cared and He mourned as we do.  He knows the sorrow we feel....if He had not experienced this as a man, He could not by our sympathetic Saviour.

Jesus moves toward the tomb that held Lazarus, and Martha, still struggling with her doubt informs Him that surely the body stinks now after 4 days.  Jesus reminds her that she needs to only believe to see the Glory of God.  Jesus moves forward with his intentions.  He lifts up a prayer of thanksgiving that the Father has heard Him, a prayer said out loud, so that those around heard His communication with God.  Then Jesus calls Lazarus forth.

We know the rest of the story.  Lazarus is resurrected.  Death is turned to life.
Thank you Jesus for calling forth life, for breathing life into us.  Thank you for offering us a new life after death, eternally.  Thank you for not blessing me based on my love for You but because you love me.  You know my needs today Lord, I trust you to meet them, Your way, in Your timing.  I will wait.

AMEN
